The release of this double album, recorded the 9th of September, 2016, in Oakland in California, gives an overview of the past year shows and demonstrates, if need, the enormous improvement of the band which mixes magnificently the tunes of the various albums and the covers of great classics always sensibly chosen. It must be noted that Derek goes further and further away from the music played with the Allman Brothers Band to propose a real synthesis of the musics of the South of the USA, a cocktail of soul, funk, blues, jazz, and a little bit of Country music. It reminds a kind of revue as in sixties with Mad Dogs & Englishmen even voire Ike & Tina Turner, but the bonus, and it is considerable, it is Derek's always fabulous way to play guitar. Indian tones also with Alam Khan a musician of Bangladesh who introduces and plays the sitar in « These Walls ». We remember that the Derek Trucks Band had explored this music in several compositions. And then the classics as « Anyhow », « Let Me Get By », « Don’t Know What It Means”… And which band can play in the same concert Miles Davis’ (« Ali »), Leonard Cohen’s (« Bird On The Wire »), George Harrison’s (« Within You, Without You ») tunes and a piece of Carlos Santana’s « Soul Sacrifice » ? The TTB is already enormous, nevertheless it has not reached yet all its potentiall !
